Edith's Copper Butterfly

The Edith's Copper (Lycaena editha) is a somewhat dull color copper of the Northwest and Northern Rocky Mountain regions.

The top picture shows a side view with a series of darker and lighter brown shaded spots on the top and bottom wings respectively. The color is washed out a bit, and there should also be a couple of orange spots at the bottom of the lower wing.

Edith's Coppers share many similar field marks with Great Coppers. Typically Edith's Copper markers are stronger. Additionally, Edith's Copper tend to be a higher elevation species while Great Coppers tend to be lower elevation species.

The bottom picture shows the duller brown top side of the male. The top side of the female shows a more coppper color with spots.
